Driver Faces Multiple Charges After Tragic Crash
A 26-year-old man has been slapped with a series of serious charges following the death of Philip Ogden in Stalybridge.
David Chorlton, with no fixed address, stands accused of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, unlicensed, and uninsured, failing to stop after the collision, and using a vehicle without insurance.
Court Appearance and Custody
Chorlton appeared at Tameside Magistrates’ Court on Friday 14 May and was remanded in custody. He’s due back at Manchester Crown Court on 11 June 2021.
Meanwhile, a different 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on bail. Two other suspects – a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman – held for assisting an offender were released under investigation.
Fatal Crash Details
The tragic collision happened just after 11pm on Sunday 9 May at the junction of Bayley Street and Bridge Street. Emergency crews rushed to the scene but despite their efforts, 32-year-old Philip Ogden was pronounced dead on the spot.
