Ex-Councillor Wallis Webb Found Dead in Birmingham
A man has been charged with murder and fraud following the death of Wallis Webb, a former councillor found dead in Erdington, Birmingham earlier this week.
Murder and Fraud Charges Laid
Wallis Webb, 65, was discovered dead at a property on Baldmoor Lake Road on Tuesday morning, West Midlands Police confirmed.
Police launched a deeper investigation after Mr Webb’s bank card was used posthumously, raising suspicions around the circumstances of his death.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Sikander Hussain, 25, from Ingleton Road, Birmingham, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the case. He now faces charges of murder and fraud by false representation.
Hussain appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and has been remanded until his next hearing.
Family Mourns “Shocking and Senseless” Loss
“To try to compress a life into short sentences does not do anybody justice. This is by far the hardest of them all,” said the family.
“Wallis was a councillor for a short period because he really believed in trying to help others and felt strongly about the hardships people now have to endure without the help so many need.”
The family described his death as “yet another life taken in a shocking and senseless manner.”
Police Urge Public To Come Forward
Another 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud but has since been released on bail as investigations continue.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact West Midlands Police via their online live chat or call 101 quoting log 631 of February 6.
