Terror Arrest at Israeli Embassy in Kensington
A 33-year-old man has been charged with terrorism after trying to break into the Israeli Embassy in Kensington, West London, last Monday evening.
Man Charged Over Embassy Break-In
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Abdullah Sabah Albadri, who has no fixed address, faces charges of preparing terrorist acts under Section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006. He is also charged with two counts of possessing a bladed weapon, offences under the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
Albadri has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.
Rapid Police Action Stops Threat
The drama unfolded just before 6pm when officers from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command spotted Albadri trying to gain unauthorised access to the embassy grounds.
Police acted fast, arresting him on suspicion of public order offences, trespassing on a protected site, and possession of offensive weapons. After further investigation, terrorism-related charges were added, with the case moved to the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Police Calm Fears & Keep Close Watch
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of Counter Terrorism Command, said:
“We remain in close contact with those at the Israeli Embassy and understand these charges will cause concern. I want to reassure the public that, so far, we are not searching for anyone else related to this incident, and there is no current indication of a wider threat.”
Investigation Continues
While Albadri is now charged, police warn the public to avoid speculation as the investigation remains ongoing.
