Swindon Man Found Guilty of Arson and Witness Intimidation
A 20-year-old Swindon man has been convicted of arson and intimidating witnesses following a trial at Bristol Crown Court. Kane Walker, from County Road, was found guilty of recklessly endangering life and witness intimidation linked to his ex-partner.
Fire Set After Ex-Partner’s Police Complaint
The shocking events unfolded after Walker’s ex made allegations against him on March 7. Although Walker was initially released on bail, just two days later a BMW belonging to a family member of the victim was deliberately torched. Swift police work, including CCTV reviews, led to Walker’s re-arrest and formal charges.
Victims’ Bravery Praised by Police
“Without their evidence for this case, we wouldn’t have been able to get this verdict,” said Catherine Baird, Trainee Complex Crime Investigator at CID. “This was an offender trying to scare the victim because she no longer wanted to be in a relationship and had reported him to the police.”
She added, “We should not feel scared to end relationships. Everyone deserves to feel safe without facing intimidation like Walker’s.”
Justice Served, Sentencing Set for November
The trial wrapped up on September 12. Walker will be sentenced on November 15. Authorities hope this conviction sends a clear message that witness intimidation and violent retaliation will not be tolerated.
This case highlights the critical role of victim support and the ongoing fight against intimidation and related crimes.
