Teen Found Guilty of Killing 20-Year-Old Courtney Bourne Before Christmas
A 19-year-old man has been convicted for the murder of Courtney Bourne, who died just before Christmas in Kirkby last year. Liam Cain, from Anfield, was found guilty today at Liverpool Crown Court after pleading not guilty.
Tragic Christmas Eve Killing in Northwood
The horror unfolded on the night of December 23, when police were called to a disturbance at a home on Quarry Green, Northwood. Courtney was rushed to hospital but tragically died from mechanical asphyxiation caused by strangulation or suffocation, confirmed by a post-mortem.
Justice for Courtney’s Family
Liam Cain was charged with murder on Christmas Day. The jury began hearing the case on July 10, where Cain denied the charges. But today, the verdict brought a grim relief to Courtney’s family, who have suffered immeasurable pain.
Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: “Courtney’s brutal murder is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence. Our thoughts remain with her family and friends as they try to come to terms with their loss.”
Merseyside Police Vow to Fight Domestic Violence
DI Lamping highlighted Merseyside Police’s ongoing commitment to tackling domestic abuse and violence against women and girls. The force works alongside local authorities and charities to support victims and ensure they feel believed and empowered when reporting offences.
“Domestic abuse takes many forms – psychological, financial, sexual, emotional, and physical,” she said. “We provide comprehensive support and collaborate with safeguarding teams to help victims rebuild their lives.”
