Walsall Man Caught with £170K Stashed in Car Gets 18 Months
A 40-year-old man from Walsall was slammed behind bars for hiding over £170,000 in cash in his car. Bledi Almadhi pleaded guilty to concealing and transferring criminal property and was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday, 8 December.
£160K Cash Found in Green Bag During Roadside Stop
Officers stopped a black BMW 7 Series at junction 12 of the M6 on 27 January 2021. In the boot, a green carrier bag packed with more than £160,000 in brown packages was discovered. Alongside the cash, police seized mobile phones and a bank card linked to criminal activity.
The court heard the car had been used between September 2020 and January 2021 to transfer illicit cash.
Police Crackdown on Money Laundering
“We are committed to protecting our county from the threat of economic crime. We will use all necessary tactics to target organised crime and those participating in corruption, fraud and money laundering,” said DC Richard Farmer from Staffordshire Police’s Fraud Finance & Cyber Invest team.
He added: “What might seem like an easy way to make some extra cash could end with a criminal record and a prison sentence.”
Almadhi was also ordered to pay a £149 discharge fee as part of his sentence.
