Rooftop Escape Bid Ends in Jail for Cannabis Kingpin
A man’s desperate rooftop getaway after police raided his cannabis factory has landed him behind bars.
Donatas Sungaila, 35, tried to outfox officers from the Neighbourhood Support Team when they stormed his Star Road home on 21 February. As police tried to enter, Sungaila made a daring break for it—climbing onto the metal roof over his garden.
Crab Crawl Capture on Neighbour’s Roof
But Sungaila’s escape plan hit a brick wall. Unseen cops waited at the back of the property and spotted him crawling “crab-like” across the roof towards a neighbour’s garden.
Frozen when face-to-face with officers at the roof’s edge, Sungaila had nowhere left to run.
£173,000 Cannabis Factory Discovered
Inside, police uncovered a near-total cannabis factory. The living room was converted to a bedroom, all three upstairs bedrooms were packed with 206 cannabis plants, and the bathroom served as a fertiliser mixing hub. Every external door was barricaded from within.
Harvested cannabis worth around £173,000 was also seized.
One Year and Ten Months for Drug Production
Sungaila was arrested and later admitted producing cannabis in court last month. On 19 April, he was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court.
“Cannabis factories not only produce illegal substances laced with harmful chemicals,” said DC Jacob Reeves, “but they also generate huge sums for criminals and tend to bring violence and other crime into our communities.”
“We rely on public info to crack down on these gangs. If you know something, get in touch.”
