The 55-year-old homeowner was inside when she came face-to-face with Casey during the break-in attempt. Following a thorough investigation by the Rotherham South Neighbourhood Team, Casey—who has no fixed address—admitted the offence at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday 17 August.

He was jailed for 18 months. After the hearing, the relieved victim reached out to PC Angela Rollett to thank her for the ongoing support and for ensuring the case didn’t go to trial.

PC Rollett Hails Justice and Police Efforts

“I’m really pleased with the sentence passed this week. Burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime, but coming face to face with the offender makes it even more traumatic,” said PC Rollett.

“This has been a lengthy process. The victim’s support was vital—without her cooperation, we wouldn’t have secured this result. We worked together immediately to create an e-fit of Casey, who was later identified in an ID parade after being circulated as wanted in June 2019.”

“Burglary blights communities but I want to assure people we investigate every offence, support victims, and work tirelessly to put offenders behind bars.”
