Man Jailed for Savage Attack on Baby Leaving Him Brain Damaged for Life

A 25-year-old man has been slammed with a 14-year prison sentence after brutally punching a 10-month-old baby in the head—causing permanent brain damage. Jordan Cattell, from Handsworth, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent for the shocking assault in Walsall back in 2018.

Horrific Injuries to Infant

The innocent baby was asleep in his cot when Cattell struck, inflicting multiple skull fractures and severe brain haemorrhaging. Though the child survived, he now faces a lifetime of disabilities and needs full-time care due to the devastating injuries.

The grim sentencing took place at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where the judge laid bare the lasting impact of Cattell’s brutality on the child’s life.

Claims of Accident Flatly Rejected

Cattell initially told police the baby had simply fallen, denying any intentional harm. He plead not guilty but was convicted after a thorough investigation and trial.

Detective Constable Lucy Simpson of West Midlands Police said: “This was an upsetting case, especially given the lifelong effect on such a tiny, innocent baby. The injuries have left the victim with permanent disabilities.”

Years of Work to Secure Justice

Det Con Simpson added: “It took years of painstaking effort to bring this case to court. I’m pleased Cattell will now serve a significant sentence for his horrific actions.”

The police and legal teams worked tirelessly to seek justice for the victim and his family. This sentencing sends a powerful warning about the vulnerability of children and the brutal consequences of violence against them.
