Rapist Who Snapped Selfies with Unconscious Victim Jailed for 12 Years
Heinous Crime in Hayes Park
Thomas Mangar, 36, from Bourne Avenue, Hillingdon, has been locked up for 12 years after raping a woman in a Hayes park — then taking photos of her lying unconscious. The twisted offender was sentenced on 21 May at Isleworth Crown Court following his March conviction for rape and sexual assault.
He will spend another four years on licence and is now on the Sex Offender Register for life.
Victim Shows Remarkable Courage
The victim, a woman in her late 20s, was left traumatised after waking up to find Mangar assaulting her in Hitherbroom Park on 12 May 2020. She screamed for help, catching the attention of a passing stranger.
Detective Sergeant Julian Crabb said: “This man is highly dangerous, and this sentence reflects the gravity of his horrific crime.” He praised the victim for her resilience and commended the police officers who cracked the case.
The victim told the court she once felt confident but now battles constant fear, flashbacks, and a shattered social life — her world completely changed.
Witnesses Nail the Predator
A heroic male witness heard the victim’s screams and saw her fight back. He confronted Mangar, who bizarrely claimed he was trying to help, thinking the woman had a heart attack, before running off.
The witness later spotted Mangar nearby and phoned the police — putting the predator behind bars. During the trial, Mangar slandered the witness with false accusations, but the witness remained composed under pressure.
Judge Duncan praised the witness’s courage and awarded him £750 as thanks for his vital role in securing justice.
Damning Evidence Seals Mangar’s Fate
- Photos found on Mangar’s phone showed the victim unconscious and exposed, alongside disturbing selfies of himself flashing a thumbs-up.
- DNA from a condom recovered at the scene matched Mangar.
- The victim’s DNA was also found on a discarded condom wrapper close by.
The court heard this chilling evidence was key in Mangar’s conviction.
