A man has been sentenced to life in prison after using his car as a deadly weapon in East Ham, killing one man and seriously injuring two others.
Trevelle Rowland Jailed for Murder and Dangerous Driving
Trevelle Rowland, 34, from Islington, was convicted of murder, dangerous driving, and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The Inner London Crown Court handed down a life sentence, with a minimum term of 22 years behind bars.
CCTV Captures Brutal Attacks
Rowland’s violent spree started in May 2023 outside a Barking pub after a heated row over a baseball cap. He deliberately crashed his VW Tiguan into two security guards, seriously injuring one and harming the other.
Less than a year later, on 24 March 2024, Rowland struck again. In the early hours outside a restaurant on Barking Road, East Ham, he rammed his car into 35-year-old Fergany Mvuezolo, killing him instantly. Two other men were also critically hurt in the terrifying attack.
Police Praise Fast Action and Key CCTV Evidence
“Rowland is an extremely dangerous man. He used his car as a weapon against three men – one of whom tragically lost his life,” said Detective Inspector Aytac Necati, lead investigator.
“He lied to police and tried to cover up his violent spree. Luckily, CCTV footage and witness accounts helped us catch him before he fled the country.”
Rowland and his partner were arrested at Heathrow Airport as they attempted to escape. Crucial evidence, including a restaurant receipt found on Rowland, helped seal his fate. The victims later identified him as the driver in both attacks.
Deception Fails to Save Rowland
After the pub incident, Rowland falsely told police he had rented out the VW Tiguan and knew nothing of the attacks. His lies were quickly exposed when victims identified him. The car was impounded soon after the first attack.
The judge’s harsh sentence sends a loud and clear warning: anyone who uses a vehicle as a weapon will face the full force of the law.
