Speeding Driver Kills Pedestrian in Manchester Horror Crash
Just after midnight on Friday 17 March 2023, a Volkswagen Golf driver ploughed into a pedestrian on Wilbraham Road, Manchester. The victim, 52-year-old Jonathan Langston, was crossing between Morville and Wyverne Road when tragedy struck.
Golf Driver Racing at Over 90mph Hits Pedestrian
The man in his 20s had stopped at a red light in the right-hand turn lane near Stretford. When the lights turned green, he slammed the accelerator, speeding past a car in the left lane at over three times the 30mph limit.
Travelling at breakneck speed, the Golf hit Jonathan Langston and hurled him 200 to 300 metres from the impact point. Despite urgent efforts by emergency services, Jonathan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Driver Arrested and Jailed for Dangerous Driving Manslaughter
The driver initially fled the scene but soon returned and confessed to police. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
On Wednesday 17 January 2024, Adeel Safdar, born 20 September 1995, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight years in prison. He was also banned from driving for 10 years and 4 months.
