Man jailed for brutal metal bat attack that left victim with fractured jaw, nose, and brain bruising
Shocking attack in Bridlington
A violent thug smashed a 61-year-old man’s jaw and nose and caused brain bruising after repeatedly bashing him with a metal bat. Jamie Duffield, 32, with no fixed address, launched the savage assault outside Patrick O’Hare’s flat on Tennyson Avenue in Bridlington on December 14.
Prison sentence after grim injuries
Yesterday at Hull Crown Court, Duffield was handed five years and ten months behind bars for assault causing grievous bodily harm, criminal damage, and carrying an offensive weapon. The court heard Duffield had shouted aggressively and shattered windows before savagely attacking Mr O’Hare at his front door.
Drugs, booze and a violent spree
At the time, Duffield was heavily intoxicated and had taken cocaine. Police arrested him on the scene after he tried to kick a police vehicle and damaged a door frame during his violent outburst.
Victim’s life changed forever
Detective Constable Sebastian Petch said: “This was a vicious and extremely violent attack, which could have easily resulted in the death of Mr O’Hare. He now struggles to walk, has speech problems, and significant memory loss — he even had to be reminded he’s a father.”
“Knowing Duffield faces nearly six years inside will hopefully bring some reassurance and help Mr O’Hare start rebuilding his life,” added DC Petch.
“I also want to thank the woman who alerted the police at the time. Her quick thinking meant officers were able to arrest Duffield before he caused more harm.”
