Man Critically Hurt After Being Hit on Pelican Crossing in Southampton

A 29-year-old man is fighting for his life after being knocked down on a pelican crossing in Southampton this afternoon.

Serious Collision Shuts Roads Near Crown Court

The crash happened just after 4.15pm on Inner Avenue, close to the city’s Crown and Magistrates Court. A black BMW 535 M1 struck the man, hitting him on the front wing before he bounced off the windscreen.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where a rapid response paramedic treated the victim. He was then rushed to Southampton General Hospital with a serious head injury. His condition is described as life-threatening.

Traffic Chaos and Police Investigation

The northbound carriageway was sealed off for over three hours, bringing traffic to a standstill across surrounding roads. Police collision investigators worked through the evening to piece together what happened.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective PC Aaron Smith said: “We want to hear from anyone who saw the collision or the moments leading up to it.”
