PC Lewis Rollins, attached to the Metropolitan Police’s Central West Command Unit, has been found guilty of assault by beating following a trial at Southwark Crown Court.
Off-Duty Officer’s Violent Outburst in Balham
The disturbing incident took place on Saturday, 18 May, after police responded to a report of an assault inside a residential property in Balham. Rollins, off-duty at the time, initially tried to hide his identity when arrested. He later faced charges and was suspended from duty immediately.
Court Verdict: Guilty on Assault, Not Guilty on Suffocation
On Wednesday, 20 November, the court convicted Rollins for assaulting a woman but cleared him of charges related to intentional suffocation and actual bodily harm against another victim. He is due to be sentenced in March 2025.
Senior Police Slam Rollins’ Behaviour
“PC Rollins’ actions are completely unacceptable and at odds with the Met’s values. I commend the women who have demonstrated extreme strength and bravery throughout this investigation,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, who oversees policing in Central West London.
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards continues a misconduct inquiry into Rollins’ conduct.
