Cop Caught Out: PC Gary Stevens Fails Stop & Search Ethics Test
PC Gary Stevens from the Specialist Operations unit has been slammed for serious misconduct. A recent hearing revealed he broke professional standards on honesty, integrity, and duty.
Misconduct Uncovered After April 2022 Stop & Search
The probe, wrapped up on Friday, May 10, spotlighted flaws during a stop and search on April 13, 2022. Key failings include:
- Mishandling Cannabis Seizure: Stevens didn’t properly secure or store the cannabis confiscated.
- Shoddy Paperwork: He botched the stop and search form and failed to update police crime databases.
- Fiddling with Records: Unauthorized edits falsely claimed the cannabis was found and sorted with community penalties.
Top Cop Warns: Trust Is Everything
Chief Superintendent Kris Wright, head of Specialist Ops, hammered the point home. “As police officers, stop and search is under the microscope,” he said. “Trust is non-negotiable. Without it, policing falls apart.”
Wright added, “PC Stevens’ dishonesty risks eroding the public’s faith. We’re determined to rebuild that trust through fair stop and search practices.”
PC Stevens Blacklisted – Barred From Future Policing Roles
As punishment, Stevens will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List. This ban stops him from working for any police force, local policing bodies, or oversight agencies across the UK.
The move sends a clear message: misconduct won’t be tolerated, and integrity is paramount on the beat.
