Nicole Blain, 30, faces shocking allegations at the Glasgow High Court. She is accused of brutally shaking her baby daughter, Thea, causing fatal head injuries. Blain denies the charges, insisting she found Thea lying on the floor with a head injury and blamed another child for the harm.

Grandmother’s Heartbreaking Testimony

Thea’s grandmother, Laura Wilson, 59, was the first witness to give evidence. She revealed how Thea was “perfect” when born on June 25, 2023, to her son Ross Wilson and Blain. The jury heard texts suggesting Blain was struggling with post-natal depression after the birth. Mrs Wilson described her final visit with Thea on July 8, 2023, calling the baby “fantastic” with no concerns about her well-being. On the day of the tragedy, Blain had planned to visit Mrs Wilson’s Ayrshire home, but instead made a chilling call that afternoon.

Horrifying Phone Call Captured by Grandad

Laura’s husband, Alan Wilson, 59, took the desperate call from Blain around 2 pm. He told the court:

“I could hear screaming. I had never heard anything like it. It was piercing and extremely loud. At first, I thought it was an older child, but then I realised it was the baby screaming. Nicole said ‘I do not know what to do’. She didn’t sound right. I told her to hang up and call an ambulance immediately.”

Alan said the screams were the worst he had ever heard.

Blain Points Finger at Another Child

In their conversation, Blain claimed she found Thea naked on the floor with a bump, insisting she had called an ambulance. Crucially, Blain alleged another child living with her was responsible for the injury, though no details about the child’s actions were given. The court heard there were two other children in the household at the time. The prosecution alleges Blain inflicted blunt force trauma on Thea by unknown means, causing fatal injuries. The trial continues before Judge Lord Scott.
