Heavy Hitters Team Up to Tackle Crime
Eastbourne’s finest launched a major operation on April 5 targeting crime in the town centre. The Neighbourhood Policing Team, Neighbourhood Enforcement Team, Tactical Enforcement Unit, and Divisional Coaching Unit joined forces to nab thieves hitting local businesses.
Knife-Wielding Thief Nabbed With Stolen Goods at Tesco Express
During patrols in the Seaside area, cops spotted Jack Beaver acting suspiciously as he left the Tesco Express. On confronting him, officers found £40 of stolen items and a knife in his possession. The 31-year-old was arrested and charged with theft and carrying a knife in public. He pled guilty at Brighton Magistrates’ Court and awaits sentencing on May 4.
Co-op Shoplifters Face Swift Justice
Meanwhile, another man was caught stealing ready meals from the Cornfield Road Co-op. He received a caution but is also wanted for recall to prison for an earlier offence dating back to February 2019.
Three more Co-op thieves were dealt with via Community Resolution. They were slapped with banning notices coordinated between police and store management.
Sports Direct Shoplifters Banned From Shopping Centre
Finally, a man and woman who stole £92 worth of trainers from Sports Direct at The Beacon shopping centre have been banned. The woman was arrested on suspicion of theft and is set to face court proceedings.
