Man Locked Up for Life After Brutal Knife Attack on Neighbour
Deadly Dispute Over Door Leads to Fatal Stabbing
A violent argument over a communal door turned deadly in Canning Town when Daniel Whybrow, 46, plunged a kitchen knife into his neighbour’s chest. The victim, 50-year-old Raish Ahmed, was stabbed repeatedly outside his home on 5 October 2024 and died two days later in hospital.
The court heard the deadly clash started after Whybrow attacked Raish earlier that evening. Returning with a friend, Raish confronted Whybrow, who shouted, “I will kill you” before lunging at Raish’s friend. CCTV captured Whybrow turning savage, stabbing Raish multiple times — even as he fell and tried to fend off the blows with a steering lock.
A teenage boy attempting to intervene was also hurt but suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Swift Police Action and Arrest Follow Attack
Neighbours rushed to stop Whybrow as paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance treated the seriously wounded Raish at the scene. Whybrow was arrested at his flat shortly after. Initially charged with attempted murder, the charge was upgraded to murder following Raish’s death on 7 October 2024.
Life Sentence for Fatal Stabbing
At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Whybrow was found guilty of murder and grievous bodily harm. He was sentenced to:
- Life imprisonment with a minimum of 24 years for murder
- Six years concurrent for grievous bodily harm
He was acquitted of racially aggravated assault and threats to kill against Raish’s friend.
Police Pay Tribute to Victim’s Family
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend said: “My thoughts remain with the victim’s family at this difficult time. I hope the sentencing brings a small measure of peace and justice to them.”
