Tragedy in Bexleyheath: Nine-Year-Old Girl Dies After Bus Crash
A nine-year-old girl has died two days after being hit by a bus in Bexleyheath. The shocking collision happened around 9:05 am on August 3, on Watling Street near the junction with Halcot Avenue.
Siblings Hospitalised After Horrific Accident
The young girl and her five-year-old brother were rushed to hospital immediately after the crash. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the girl passed away on August 5. Her family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist police officers.
The five-year-old boy was also treated in hospital as a precaution but did not suffer life-threatening injuries. At the time, both children were with a family member.
Bus Driver Arrested Over Dangerous Driving
The bus driver, a man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous and drug-driving. He has been bailed until early November while investigations continue.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The Roads and Transport Policing Command is leading the inquiry. Detectives urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has footage to come forward and help with the investigation.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At 09:05hrs on Saturday, 3 August, police were called to reports of a bus colliding with two children on Watling Street near Halcot Avenue. A nine-year-old girl was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but sadly died on August 5. Her family is being supported by specialist officers. The five-year-old boy was treated as a precaution. The children were with a family member at the time.”
