North London Thief Jailed for Snatching £6,000 from Pensioner in Broad Daylight

£6K Stolen in Uxbridge High-Street Cunning

Tinka Dinkova, 22, from Empire Avenue, Edmonton, has been locked up for nine weeks after stealing £6,000 from pensioner Emelia Okpoti in Uxbridge.

The court at Uxbridge Magistrates’ sentenced Dinkova following her conviction for theft. She must also stump up £154 in costs and serve at least a month behind bars.

How the Crime Went Down

On June 10, 2024, the pair trailed the elderly victim for 30 minutes around Uxbridge Town Centre. After Emelia withdrew a large sum of cash from a bank, Dinkova and her accomplice shadowed her through several shops.

Seizing the perfect moment, Dinkova slipped the cash from her bag without Emelia noticing. The loss only came to light later when the pensioner realised her money had vanished.

Met Police Snare Thief Using CCTV

The Met pieced together CCTV footage and witness accounts to track down Dinkova.

“This was a targeted theft by a pair who were in town purely to steal. They followed the victim around multiple stores for nearly 30 minutes prior to actually taking the money,” a Met spokesperson confirmed.

Police Warn: Don’t Haul Cash Around Town

Authorities have urged people, especially the elderly, to be cautious when handling large amounts of money. Their advice:

  • Withdraw cash and go straight home.
  • Avoid shopping or loitering with large sums visible.

“If you withdraw a large amount, please go straight home and do not continue shopping,” warned the spokesperson.
