Luxury Range Rover Evoque Seized from Criminal to Be Auctioned Off by West Yorkshire Police
A flashy Range Rover Evoque, once owned by a local crook jailed for five years, is heading to auction – with all proceeds benefiting good causes across West Yorkshire.
Seized Under Proceeds of Crime Act
The sleek SUV was confiscated under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) after its owner was locked up. West Yorkshire Police’s Kirklees District Crime Team paraded the vehicle outside Huddersfield Police Station today. Their message? Crime doesn’t pay.
Warning to Families: Crime Isn’t Glamorous
Posters plastered on the Range Rover warn passersby about the dangers of criminal exploitation, especially aimed at children lured into gang life. Detective Chief Inspector Diane Johnson said:
“The point of this is to make people stop, look and then think – are they or their child at risk from criminal exploitation?”
She added:
“Do they imagine criminals are untouchable, cruising in luxury cars and rocking designer gear? Do they think, ‘that’s the life for me’?”
Johnson stressed that reality bites:
“Displaying this car helps burst that bubble. The truth is very different — this vehicle was seized and is now being sold on.”
Community Call to Action
Through Programme Precision, West Yorkshire Police work with partners to smash serious organised crime. Detective Chief Inspector Johnson urged:
“If you have information about illegal activity in your area, contact us so we can take action.”
Keep an eye out: this once-criminal’s shiny Range Rover might soon be yours – and it’s all for a great cause.
