High Wycombe Man Hurls Firebombs at Kent Factory Before Apparent Suicide
Andrew Leak, 66, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, is believed to have taken his own life last Sunday after launching two or three crude incendiary bombs at the Western Jet Foil plant in Kent.
Counter-Terror Police Probe Extreme Right-Wing Motive
Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), teamed with Kent Police, uncovered evidence pointing to a terrorist ideology behind the attack. Leak reportedly arrived alone in a car and threw several crude firebombs outside the factory premises.
Officials have interviewed key witnesses and seized digital devices revealing the attack was driven by extreme right-wing beliefs. Thankfully, no one suffered serious injuries, but two people did sustain minor harm.
No Wider Threat, But Investigation Continues
There is currently no sign that Leak had any accomplices or posed further danger to the public. The inquiry remains active, with work being conducted on behalf of His Majesty’s Coroner.
Counter Terror Boss Warns On Rise Of Troubled Minds
“This was certainly a very worrying occurrence,” said Tim Jacques, Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing. “Individuals with mental health issues and a malicious mindset are becoming more common in counter-terrorism cases across all ideologies.”
“Determining when this crosses the terrorist threshold is complex and must be handled case by case, based on facts available.”
“After reviewing the evidence, I am satisfied that while mental health was likely a factor, the suspect’s actions were largely motivated by extreme ideology. This fits the definition of a terrorist incident.”
