Armed Man Arrested Near Church After Weapons Standoff

Police sprang into action at around 9.20pm after reports of a man armed with a bottle and a knife on Parr Mount Street. Officers quickly scoped the area and spotted the suspect near The Mount Church on Traverse Street.

The man, reportedly aggressive and still holding the weapons, was disarmed and taken into custody. One officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest, but thankfully no members of the public were hurt.

Man Charged with Attempted Murder and More

Thomas McComish, 33, from Morgan Street, St Helens, has been charged with attempted murder, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, possession of a bladed article in public, and possession of an offensive weapon in public.

McComish is set to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court today, Thursday 8 December.
