Swindon Police Crack Down on Knife Crime in Operation Sceptre

Swindon cops have launched a fierce campaign targeting suspected knife carriers as part of the national knife crime crackdown, Operation Sceptre.

Three-Day Blitz Nets Multiple Drug Seizures

Supported by Special Constables and the Fortitude Team, the Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Teams carried out a three-day intelligence-led operation. Officers patrolled the streets in vehicles, on foot, and by bike, conducting over 30 stop-and-searches across the town.

The result? Several cannabis seizures, with further investigations underway.

Sgt Fay Reassures Community Despite Arrests

“The low percentage of weapons recovered during the stop searches during this operation should bring comfort to the local community and reinforce that we remain one of the safest counties in the country,” said Sgt Richard Fay from the Swindon Central South Team.

“We will continue to bring all those who carry weapons to justice. If you have information about anyone carrying weapons, contact us via 101, our website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Arrest Made for Knife Possession and Assault on Police

On 13 November, police arrested 25-year-old Mandeep Bansal from Bodiam Drive. He faces two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of possessing a knife in public. Bansal is also under investigation for allegedly possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Bansal has been released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at magistrates on 13 January 2021.
