Man Arrested After Dead Cats Found Near Pleydell Estate

Police swooped after a spate of dead cats were found around the Pleydell Estate between September 2022 and February 2023. The public raised alarm over the disturbing find.

Undercover Officers Make Arrest at 4am

Plainclothes cops patrolled the area overnight. Their stakeout paid off just after 4am on Sunday, 12 February, when they arrested 56-year-old David Avhanvhondo from King Square, London, on suspicion of animal cruelty.

Serious Charges Filed

The very next day, Avhanvhondo was slapped with two charges:

  • Carrying out a prohibited procedure on a protected animal
  • Causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 13 February, where he pleaded not guilty. He is set for another hearing on Tuesday, 28 February.
