Vile Tweet Sparks Outrage and Swift Police Action
The disturbing message, posted at 2:07pm from Jack Jameson’s now-deleted Twitter account, read:
“Love to let a bomb off in the family section of Fratton Park watch all the kids blow up.”
The post ignited fury across football fans in both Southampton and Portsmouth. Social media users quickly reported the threat, forcing Jameson to privatise and then delete his account. Hampshire Police launched an immediate investigation following multiple public reports.
Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: “We received various reports regarding a comment made on Twitter at 2.07pm today. A 22-year-old man from Shirley in Southampton has been arrested and is currently assisting officers with their inquiries.”
Known Football Hooligan with Violent Past
Jack Jameson, from English Road, Southampton, is no stranger to trouble. He was slapped with a four-year football banning order last February after leading a riot ahead of Southampton’s 2015 Europa League clash with Dutch side Vitesse.
His history of football violence dates back further — he received a three-year banning order in Bristol when he was just 16.
Online Hate Speech Under the Microscope
The case has reignited warnings about the rise of hate speech and threats linked to football rivalries spilling over onto social media. Authorities are cracking down hard on such dangerous behaviour.
Possible Jail Time for Grossly Offensive Threats
Under the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015, sending threatening or grossly offensive messages on social media can land the culprit up to two years behind bars.
Police confirm Jameson is being investigated under this law as the probe continues.
