Speedy Thieves Nabbed After 59 Ford Fiesta Thefts
Two brazen car thieves were caught red-handed on CCTV stealing a Ford Fiesta in under two minutes during a crime spree that saw 59 Fiestas stolen across the region.
High-Tech Tools Used in Daylight Theft Spree
Kaine Guest-Scott and Theon Lynch preyed on cars parked at train station car parks, targeting commuters’ vehicles while they were at work. The pair used high-tech transmitter devices to unlock the Fords, then smashed steering locks with angle grinders before driving off.
CCTV Evidence Cracks Case Wide Open
After a major investigation by the vehicle crime task force, police traced the duo via extensive CCTV footage. On 14 September, the pair were seen arriving at The Hawthorns station in a red Fiesta, which they ditched nearby before stealing another. Less than a month later, they struck again at Rowley Regis, using a victim’s stolen credit card in a shop—also caught on camera.
Arrests and Sentencing Bring Thieves to Justice
Guest-Scott was arrested in November 2022 after attempting to escape by jumping out of a window. Lynch was caught a week later. Police recovered theft gear like blank keys, transmitter devices, and specialist locksmith tools from their homes in Coseley and West Bromwich.
Both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal cars, theft of a bank card, and fraud. At Birmingham Crown Court on 17 March, the pair were jailed for four years and one month, and three years respectively.
Sgt Mitch Darby of the Vehicle Crime Taskforce said: “This is a great result – two prolific car thieves are off the streets, stopping them from stealing any more cars. They boldly struck in broad daylight while victims were at work, leaving them to return and find their vehicles gone.
“Our taskforce was set up to combat rising car thefts in the West Midlands and this remains a priority. We urge the public to always report suspicious activity—your information makes a real difference.”
