Dunfermline Tragedy: Two Jailed Over Man’s Death
Two people have been locked up after a brutal attack that led to the death of Chris Cowie in his Dunfermline home back in October 2019.
10 Years Behind Bars for Jason Mooney
Chris Cowie, 38, was found dead at his Golfdrum Street house in the early hours of 15 October 2019. After a night of socialising with friends including Jason Mooney, 28, and Lynn Kelly, 35, Cowie suffered a savage attack.
Mooney was sentenced to 10 years in prison while Kelly was handed four and a half years at Edinburgh’s High Court. Both were found guilty of culpable homicide by a jury in March 2021.
Refused Help, Left to Die
The duo brutally assaulted Cowie inside his living room but shockingly failed to get him medical help. Instead, they abandoned him to suffer alone.
They were arrested and charged the next day, 16 October 2019.
Police Slam Ruthless Attackers
“Mooney and Kelly have always failed to admit that their actions, and the level of violence used, cost Mr Cowie his life. He spent his final moments pleading for help, but the pair decided to leave him alone to suffer,” said Detective Inspector Paul Dick from Dunfermline Police.
“This was a particularly difficult crime to investigate. I want to thank witnesses and those who helped with police enquiries. Violent crime has no place in society. We will keep working hard to bring offenders to justice.”
