Sheffield Man Found Guilty of Horrific Child Sex Crimes After Decades of Abuse
A 48-year-old man has been convicted of multiple child sexual offences in a chilling case spanning the 1980s and 1990s.
Paul Degenhart Jailed for Sex Attacks on Four Children
Paul Andrew Degenhart, formerly of Raeburn Road, Sheffield, faced 34 charges at Sheffield Crown Court, including indecent assault, rape, buggery, and indecency with a child. After three days of jury deliberations, he was found guilty of 33 offences – including 20 counts of indecent assault and four counts of rape.
‘Tremendous Bravery’ Shown by Victims
“The victims have shown tremendous bravery in relaying the horrific abuse they suffered,” said Detective Constable Helen Barrett, who led the investigation. “Degenhart refused to admit any responsibility, forcing the victims to painfully revisit their trauma in court.”
She praised the victims for their courage and dignity during the trial. “The jury’s guilty verdicts reflect the strength of the evidence given. Degenhart groomed, terrorised, and abused these children, threatening them to stay silent.”
Awaiting Sentence, Justice Still to Come
Degenhart remains in custody and will be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday, 18 November.
This conviction marks a significant victory for justice in a case that has haunted Sheffield for decades.
