Police Officer Charged with Sexual Assault Set to Face Court
PC Daniel Beegan, a serving officer from the Specialist Crime unit, is due to appear in court over a sexual assault charge. The off-duty officer was arrested on 31 March 2023 and formally charged on 31 December 2023.
Court Appearance Scheduled
Beegan is set to appear at croydon/" title="Croydon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 January. He faces one count of sexual assault by touching related to an incident on 8 December 2022 involving a woman.
Incident Details and Official Response
The alleged offence took place while PC Beegan was off duty. Detective Superintendent Victoria Sullivan of the Specialist Crime Command acknowledged the gravity of the charge.
“This is a serious allegation and I recognise it will cause concern. Legal proceedings are now underway and it is important to avoid any further commentary while this process takes place.”
Officer Suspended
Following his arrest, PC Beegan was placed on restricted duties and has since been suspended from the police force pending further investigation.
