Zombie Knives and Drugs: Police Shut Down Sutton-in-Ashfield Crime Den
Nottinghamshire Police and Ashfield District Council have slammed the brakes on a notorious Sutton-in-Ashfield hotspot. After a torrent of drug dealing, violence, and complaints, they’ve successfully shut down a property on Warnadene Road for three months.
Drugs, Weapons and Disorder Found Inside
Over the past year, officers were swamped with reports about drug crime at the address. Inspections uncovered ‘zombie knives’, Class A and B drugs, and paraphernalia. The place had become a magnet for lawlessness and fear.
Closure Order Bans Occupants and Visitors
On Friday, Mansfield Magistrates granted a closure order, barring entry to everyone, including residents, for three months. Breaching this order carries criminal charges, fines, and possible jail time.
Officials Speak Out on Community Safety
Inspector Jon Hewitt said: “This property had become a hub of violence and drug crime. Local residents were right to call us repeatedly. We can’t tolerate such behaviour that harms the community.”
Councillor Helen-Ann Smith added: “Ward councillor Sarah Madigan and I pushed for swift action. The Community Safety Partnership is investing over £1.3 million to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour across Ashfield.”
Antonio Taylor, Community Safety Manager, called the closure a “fantastic result” just in time to protect residents this festive season.
This crackdown follows similar closure orders in August at two Collins Avenue properties, showing cops and council mean business in cleaning up Sutton-in-Ashfield.
