Suspected Cocaine Dealer Busted After Police Dog Sniffs Out Stash Near Sittingbourne
Police Stop Leads to Major Drug Find
On Sunday, 29 December 2024, officers patrolling Avenue of Remembrance, Sittingbourne, pulled over a VW Passat. They had reason to suspect the driver was involved in drug dealing. During the stop, the driver was detained and his phone seized. Then, police dog Charlie was brought in to inspect the vehicle.
Charlie’s sharp nose didn’t disappoint. Hidden behind a door panel, the dog sniffed out a cigarette packet containing 25 wraps of suspected cocaine. The driver was promptly arrested.
Raids Uncover More Drugs and Cash
Following the car stop, police searched a nearby house. There, they found £1,710 in cash, cannabis, and more bags of white powder believed to be cocaine.
Man Charged and Remanded
26-year-old Andre Mehmetaj, from Blossom Street, Sittingbourne, faces serious charges:
- Concerned in the supply of cocaine
- Possession of cocaine with intent to supply
- Possession of cannabis with intent to supply
He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 31 December and has been remanded to maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone Crown Court. His next court date is 27 January 2025.
Kent Police Praise Police Dog’s Role
“This operation shows the crucial role our proactive patrols and police dogs play in detecting and stopping illegal drug supply. We’ll keep working hard to fight drug crime in our communities,” said a Kent Police spokesperson.
Police investigations are ongoing as officers gather more evidence in the case.
