Top Cop Tossed After Hurling Abuse on Twitter
A police inspector has been kicked out after firing off nasty, abusive tweets aimed at members of the public.
Inspector’s Twitter Tirade Sparks Outrage
Inspector Philip Grimwade, with 26 years on the force, faced a public Gross Misconduct Hearing at Nottinghamshire Police HQ on Monday, 20 November. Two women complained earlier this year about his vile social media behaviour on Twitter.
Grimwade called out female Twitter users with vile slurs like “mentalists” and “narcissists.” The victims branded these comments as “misogynistic,” “abusive,” and totally unprofessional.
Brush with the Law Ends Career
Police watchdogs launched a full probe as soon as the first complaint hit. Nottinghamshire Police’s Chief Constable Kate Meynell slammed Grimwade’s actions during the hearing, highlighting how his offensive posts spanned from December 2017 to January 2023.
“His conduct was intentional, deliberate and targeted… repeated and sustained behaviour,” Meynell stated. “He was a role model and in a position of responsibility, yet he tarnished the force’s reputation and caused distress.”
Grimwade admitted to gross misconduct but denied holding misogynistic beliefs, blaming a loss of focus and manners.
Inspector Grimwade Blacklisted and Fired
Following the findings, Grimwade was fired and placed on the Police Barred List, ending his long career on a sour note.
