Violence erupts at Consulate protest – One injured, police hunting more victims
Chaos at Consulate Grounds
A peaceful protest on Sunday afternoon turned sour, leaving a man in his 30s with minor injuries after an alleged assault inside the Consulate grounds. The disturbance happened between 2pm and 3pm on 16 October, sparking a police investigation.
Police Gather Key Evidence
The Major Incident Team is hunting for the full story. They’ve collected CCTV footage, police body-cam videos, mobile phone clips, and statements from witnesses to piece together what went down. So far, detectives have identified multiple offences, including assaults and breaches of public order.
Ongoing Investigation with No Arrests Yet
Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes confirmed no arrests have been made. He said:
“This is a complex inquiry, and our experienced detectives are working tirelessly to explore every lead. We’re getting a clearer picture of how a peaceful protest escalated and have identified suspects, victims, and crimes. This is a sensitive but objective investigation, and we’re committed to speaking with all involved to get the answers we need.”
Police Seek More Victims
Aside from the injured man, a police officer suffered a minor hand injury while helping remove him from the scene. Police are urging anyone else affected by the incident to come forward. Enquiries remain ongoing, with more updates expected as the investigation unfolds.
