Met Police Officer Sacked for Swearing and Racist Abuse at Protesters
PC Marcus Tyson from Westminster has been fired for gross misconduct after a public hearing found he breached professional standards.
Swearing and Aggression at Political March
On August 14, 2016, Tyson was policing a lawful political march when he became verbally aggressive and offensive. Video evidence caught him swearing at march participants and using discriminatory language. Although some protesters swore too, the panel ruled Tyson lost self-control, breaking rules of authority, respect, and equality.
Unbelievable Excuses and Poor Judgement
The panel slammed Tyson’s explanations as lacking credibility. Despite having chances to walk away, he deliberately returned to argue with protesters. This conduct went against orders and damaged public trust.
Secret Interview with Sunday Times
On September 25, 2016, Tyson gave a filmed interview to the Sunday Times without permission, breaching Met Police media policy.
Dismissed Without Notice
After thorough review, the misconduct panel—led by an independent legal chair—found all allegations proven in March. PC Marcus Tyson was promptly dismissed.
