Lucy Meacock Quits ITV After 36 Years
ITV stalwart Lucy Meacock is hanging up her mic after more than three decades. The beloved Granada Reports presenter has announced her emotional departure, ending a 36-year run that made her a North West TV legend.
A Career That Spanned Decades
Starting out at Tyne Tees TV during the 1984 Miners’ Strike, Lucy joined Granada in 1988. Since then, she’s been the trusted face on flagship shows including UpFront, The Late Debate, The Main Ingredient, and even This Morning from liverpool/" title="Liverpool" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Liverpool. Her dedication earned her respect from colleagues and viewers alike across the region.
Emotional Farewell to ITV and the North West
“This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made,” Lucy revealed. “But the time is right to move on now. For me, it has always been the best job in the world, with the best people in the world, in the best region in the world!”
Lucy also paid tribute to everyone who has supported her journey. “A big thank you to all the people who have appeared on the programme over the years, sometimes when they were facing some very tough challenges. And to the wonderful people I’ve worked with in more than 40 years on TV, and the viewers who welcomed us into their homes – thank you.”
Passing the Torch
Her final Granada Reports broadcast will air on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 6 PM on ITV1. Lucy wished her successor all the best and had this to say: “It’s been the best gig for 36 years. As I move on, I’ll be the first to congratulate my successor and wish Gamal and the Granada Reports team all the very best for the future. Good night and thank you for watching.”
