Man Shot at Late-Night Mitcham Gathering
Detectives are hunting for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was shot during an early-morning gathering in Mitcham.
Police were called by London Ambulance Service at 3.08am on Sunday, 21 June, to the Baron Court area in London Road following reports of a shooting. The victim was found with a gunshot wound and rushed to hospital. He remains in critical but stable condition.
No Arrests Yet as Police Launch Appeal
Officers believe the shooting happened at a nearby event in London Road Playing Field. No suspects have been arrested, and inquiries are ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Jo Ross said: “A young man is seriously injured and I’m urging anyone with information—no matter how minor—to come forward. Someone out there knows who did this. Please don’t stay silent and protect a suspect.
“If you have footage of the shooting or the event, share it with us. Help us piece together what happened and bring the culprit to justice.”
Police Warn Against Unlicensed Events Amid Pandemic
Chief Superintendent Sally Benatar highlighted a tough weekend with several unlicensed music events and large groups gathering in parks across south west London. She warned these gatherings risked spreading COVID-19 and contributed to crime and anti-social behaviour.
“We thank the majority who follow government advice. But some continue to put themselves and others at risk by gathering in large groups,” she said.
Benatar added police are listening to local concerns and adapting plans to keep communities safe through the ongoing pandemic.
