Three nabbed in Soho over fears of disruption to Coronation procession
Rape alarms seized amid plot to spook horses
Police arrested three suspects in Soho early this morning, foiling a plan to cause chaos during today’s Coronation procession. Intelligence received on May 5 revealed groups plotting to throw rape alarms to scare the military horses involved.
Safety fears for public and riders
Military sources warned loud alarms could panic horses, risking injuries to both the animals and onlookers. Officers detained a 37-year-old woman, a 59-year-old woman, and a 47-year-old man around 2am, after finding multiple rape alarms in their possession. The man also faces suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Suspects released but probe ongoing
All three were released on bail as investigations continue. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan acknowledged public worries but stressed the case is far from closed.
“The intelligence we received led us to be extremely worried about the potential risk to public safety. We are aware of and understand there is public concern over these arrests. However, the matter is still under investigation.”
