Scarborough Man Jailed for Breaking Sexual Harm Prevention Order
Oliver Anglesmith, 34, from Northstead Flats, Scarborough, was sentenced to two years behind bars on Tuesday (19 April 2022). He also faces a £156 victim surcharge for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Park Incident Sparks Swift Police Action
The case began when a concerned parent spotted suspicious behaviour in a Scarborough children’s play park on Wednesday, 23 March. CCTV footage quickly identified Anglesmith, leading to his arrest for ignoring the SHPO, which banned him from parks and play areas.
He was charged and held in custody ahead of his court appearance at Scarborough Magistrates Court on 28 March, where he pleaded guilty.
Police Praise Parent and Officers for Quick Response
After a second remand, Anglesmith was sentenced at York Crown Court on Tuesday. Detective Sergeant David Adams from Scarborough Investigation Hub said:
“Thanks to the quick response of officers who immediately launched an investigation following the report by a concerned parent, Anglesmith was identified via CCTV, arrested, charged, and before the court within days.
“While no children were harmed, Anglesmith showed zero regard for the sexual harm prevention order clearly forbidding him from entering parks or play areas.
“I thank the parent who trusted their instincts and reported the incident. Also, the officers involved, especially PC Matthew Philpott, whose detailed police work was key to locking Anglesmith up.
“This prison sentence sends a strong message — breaching court orders of this seriousness will not be tolerated, and police will take swift action.”
