Beast from Bath Jailed for 14 Years Over Horrific Abuse
Muhammad Talukdar, 51, from Ballance Street, Bath, was slammed with a 14-year prison sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court on May 31. His conviction crowns a long-running investigation into the sexual abuse of a young girl in Tower Hamlets, East London, that dates back to 1998.
Brutal Case Cracked Despite No DNA Evidence
The probe faced major hurdles, including a lack of DNA proof and recent witness testimonies. Still, specialist officers launched a fresh inquiry in 2020. They pieced together the damning case by interviewing the victim’s family and friends, scouring medical records, and, crucially, gaining access to the victim’s counselling session notes, which confirmed the extent of Talukdar’s abuse.
Guilty Verdict and Praise for Victim’s Courage
Back in March 2024, Talukdar was found guilty of three counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault — leading to his heavy sentence.
“I’d like to commend the bravery of the victim for her strength throughout this investigation,” said Detective Constable Paul Hawthorn, who led the hunt for justice. “I hope this case inspires others who may fear speaking out against this kind of abhorrent abuse.”
Hawthorn also saluted the police team. “The officers showed true determination in securing justice. They are a credit to the Met. We will keep fighting to protect women and girls and stamp out sexual violence.”
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
The Metropolitan Police have urged all abuse survivors, no matter when it happened, to come forward. “If you’ve been a victim of abuse – no matter how long ago – please reach out to the police and get the support you deserve,” Hawthorn added.
