Man Charged with Murder of PCSO Julia James Appears in Court

Callum Wheeler, 21, appeared in court this morning charged with the murder of PCSO Julia James, the 53-year-old mum-of-two found dead on a remote track in Snowdown, Kent.

The defendant joined via video link from HM Prison Belmarsh. Dressed in a grey tracksuit and black face mask, Wheeler sat with his arms folded throughout the 20-minute hearing. No bail application was made.

Trial Set for November After Shocking Killing

Wheeler, from Sunshine Corner Avenue, Aylesham, is accused of fatally attacking Julia while she walked her Jack Russell, Toby, on Tuesday, April 28. The mum-of-two worked with the domestic violence unit at canterbury/" title="Canterbury" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Canterbury police station.

He is charged with inflicting serious head injuries during what prosecutors describe as a violent and seemingly random attack. No clear motive has emerged.

Wheeler is due to stand trial for four weeks starting November 29. He appeared before Maidstone Crown Court via prison link to senior judge Philip Statman and remains in custody until his next hearing on June 8, when he will enter his plea.

Police Hunt Continues Amid Forensic Investigation

Prosecutor Martin Yale said officers are still examining forensic evidence, including an iron bar, in an effort to understand the crime fully. He confirmed no bail was sought.

“He is charged with the murder of Julia James and there is no application for bail,” Mr Yale told the court.

Three officers involved in the investigation, including Detective Chief Inspector Gavin Moss, attended the hearing, which was briefly delayed due to technical issues with the prison connection.

Defence Considers Psychiatric Report Ahead of Trial

Lawyer Lesley Manley, defending Wheeler, revealed that they are exploring a psychiatric report before the trial begins. Wheeler was arrested late on Friday and charged on Monday.

Julia James’s post-mortem revealed she suffered significant head injuries, sparking a major police hunt in the Kent area.
