Train stations get frontline voices to tell passengers: Only travel if you must!
New Announcements From Key Workers Hit the Rails
From today (June 11), rail passengers across England and Scotland will hear something new at stations – real messages from frontline workers. Doctors, nurses, supermarket staff, teachers, and even school kids are urging travellers to only take the train if absolutely necessary. These fresh announcements aim to keep everyone safe as lockdown eases.
Face Masks and Social Distancing Now Vital on Trains
The timing couldn’t be tighter. With non-essential shops set to reopen and mandatory face coverings coming in on trains from June 15, the government is clear: keep your distance and wear a mask. Only 10-20% of normal passenger numbers are allowed to reduce crowding.
Rail companies are pushing for travellers to avoid busy times and stagger their trips. Stations are plastered with posters reminding people about these new rules – and now, key workers’ voices back it up.
Hear It From Those Who Really Need Trains
Passengers will hear heartfelt messages like:
- “I’m Zeynab, a call handler at London Ambulance Service. Please help me save lives by wearing a face covering and working from home if you can.”
- “Hi, I’m Lottie, 8 years old. My parents are key workers. Please wear a face covering and wash your hands often to keep us safe.”
- “I’m Hannah, a nurse in a care home. Thanks for avoiding busy times and wearing masks to protect us all.”
These personalised announcements are a first for stations, usually relying on automated messages or staff.
Rail Boss Calls for Team Effort To Keep Passengers Safe
“We’re thrilled frontline workers and children are helping us get this message across,” said Robert Nisbet, Director at Rail Delivery Group. “Please only travel if necessary, avoid rush hour, and wear a mask. It’s crucial as shops reopen.”
“Keeping safe is a team game – rail workers, passengers, everyone has a part to play. Thanks to all who are planning ahead and following the rules.”
