Reading Man Jailed for Horrific Fake Grindr Attack
Abdullah Shahnamy, 44, from Elizabeth Walk, Reading, has been sentenced to nine-and-a-half years behind bars after a chilling sexual assault case. Reading Crown Court handed down the verdict on Thursday, 4 December.
Fake Profile Lured Victim Into Brutal Car Attack
Shahnamy used a fake Grindr profile, pretending to be a 26-year-old man. He matched with a man in his twenties and set up a meeting in east Reading on 31 October 2024. Instead of a date, the victim faced a terrifying ordeal, as Shahnamy brutally raped and sexually assaulted him inside his car.
Guilty Verdict After Six-Day Trial
- After six days in court, Shahnamy was found guilty on 2 September by majority verdict.
- He was convicted of one count of rape, one count of sexual assault, and three counts of sexual activity without consent.
- Shahnamy was arrested on 25 February 2024 and charged on 1 March.
Lifetime Sex Offender Registration and 20-Year Prevention Order
In addition to his prison term, Shahnamy faces a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He will remain on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring he is closely monitored by authorities moving forward.
