Parcel Thieves Target Canterbury Homes
Since November, Kent Police have logged six parcel thefts across Canterbury. Thieves have been swooping in to snatch deliveries straight off doorsteps, leaving residents frustrated and wary.
Where and When the Thefts Happened
- 11 November: Down Road – Parcel reportedly delivered with photo proof but vanished before pickup.
- 18 November: Bingly Court and Long Meadow Way – Parcels left at properties, but gone when owners tried to collect.
- 22 November: Westwood Drive – Parcels stolen before victim could collect them.
- 26 November: Kilndown Gardens – Package nabbed from doorstep.
- 4 December: Kent Avenue – Parcel taken before owners had chance to grab it.
Police Urge Vigilance as Theft Remains Low
Inspector Guy Thompson from the Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: “Kent Police investigates all reports of theft and is committed to bringing those responsible to justice.”
He added: “Compared to the number of households in the area, postal thefts remain very low. Residents are unlikely to become victims, but we’re not complacent.”
How to Protect Your Parcels From Porch Pirates
- Track your parcel and be home when it’s delivered, or ask a trusted neighbour or family member to collect it.
- Install security measures like lights, CCTV, or a video doorbell to deter thieves and alert you to visitors.
- Use off-site locker services in busy, safer locations to reduce risk.
