Driver Banned After Violent Road Rage Attack With Table Leg

Skip Lorry Boss Loses Operator’s Licence

Kevin Griggs had his operator’s licence revoked by Deputy Traffic Commissioner Nick Denton. He’s banned from holding any such licence for at least a year. On top of that, his vocational driving licence is suspended for the same period.

Road Rage Rages Out of Control at Roundabout

The trouble started with a minor collision at a roundabout. But Griggs didn’t stop there. He forced the other driver off the road at the roundabout exit, then jumped out swinging a table leg like a weapon. He aggressively threatened the driver and even hit him on the back with the table leg before speeding off dangerously.

Convicted Criminal — But Tried to Cover It Up

At Snaresbrook Crown Court, Griggs was convicted of assault by beating, possession of an offensive weapon in public, using threatening behaviour, and careless driving. Punishments included:

  • Four points on his licence for careless driving
  • One month’s suspended jail for weapon possession
  • One month’s suspended jail for threatening behaviour
  • Six months’ suspended jail for assault
  • 100 hours of community service

He shockingly failed to inform the traffic commissioner about any of his convictions.

Deputy Commissioner: ‘Not Fit to Hold Licence’

Video evidence from police footage contradicted Griggs’ claims during the inquiry, branding him an unreliable witness. Deputy Commissioner Denton blasted the incident as “exceptionally serious and shocking.”

“The public have a right to drive on the road without an operator using his skip lorry to force another vehicle to stop in a wholly inappropriate location causing danger to other road users. Other road users should not be subject to the abuse and violence dealt out by Mr Griggs, no matter what the excuse … The inescapable conclusion is that Kevin Roy Griggs is not fit to hold an operator’s licence.”
