The Crown Prosecution Service has slapped two fresh charges on Russell Brand after a Metropolitan Police investigation. The 50-year-old comedian now faces a growing list of serious allegations.
Two New Charges Hit Brand
Russell Brand, the Oxfordshire-born comic, is now charged with:
- One count of rape
- One count of sexual assault
These latest accusations involve two additional women and add to the original charges from April 2025, which include:
- Two counts of rape
- One count of indecent assault
- Two counts of sexual assault
Allegations Dating Back Over 20 Years
The Met’s probe kicked off in September 2023 after reports from Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times ignited complaints. The accusations cover incidents spanning more than a decade:
- 1999: Rape in Bournemouth
- 2001: Indecent assault in Westminster, London
- 2004: Oral rape and sexual assault in Westminster
- 2004-2005: Sexual assault in Westminster
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Offer Support
“The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” said Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi.
“The Met’s investigation remains ongoing, and detectives urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with police.”
A dedicated team at the Met can be reached via email at [email protected]. Victims can also get help from the independent charity Rape Crisis, which runs a 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.
Court Dates Confirmed
Brand will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 facing the two latest charges. His trial for the initial five charges is set for 16 June 2026 at Southwark Crown Court.
Media Urged to Report Responsibly
The police stressed the need for responsible reporting in line with the Attorney General’s guidance on contempt of court. Editors, publishers, and social media users must seek legal advice to steer clear of breaking the law.
Overall, the charges involve six women and have sent shockwaves through the UK entertainment scene.
