Safer Internet Day Shock: Teen’s Nude Photo Nightmare
For Safer Internet Day, Hampshire Constabulary has dropped a hard-hitting film revealing the dark side of sending nudes online. It features Megan, a real-life victim, whose story is a warning to teens everywhere.
From New Girl to Social Media Star
At just 14, Megan moved to a new school after being bullied. Eager to fit in, she quickly became popular, with followers and friends flooding her social media. Life seemed perfect — until it all turned upside down.
Tricked Into Sharing Nudes
Megan thought she’d caught a boy’s eye and started chatting with him online. But it was a trap. He twisted her trust into sending nude photos, which were then blasted around the entire school — and beyond. Devastated, Megan faced the fallout of bullying and shame.
Breaking the Silence
“Together with Megan we have created three versions of our film, ‘Sending nudes: #ItHappenedToMe’,” said PC Maria Carrick. “One version targets young people, another is for parents, and a third for professionals working with youth. “Hearing Megan’s story and how she overcame this will give strength to others facing pressures to send nude selfies or dealing with bullying.” “We’ll blast the film across social media and send it to schools to spread the message far and wide. Parents and teachers shouldn’t shy away from talking about social media and privacy. Thinking before posting can stop young people becoming victims or perpetrators.”
