Bungling Burglar Jailed for Terrifying Pensioner in Gosport

A ruthless thug forced his way into a pensioner’s home in Gosport, threatening the vulnerable 71-year-old with a knife – but ended up behind bars for seven-and-a-half years.

Knife-Wielding Burglar Targets Elderly Man

On December 13, just after 10:30pm, Jordan Roger, 20, of Magennis Close burst into the Anchorage flat. The pensioner, who struggles to walk, answered a knock only to find Roger masked and brandishing a knife.

The terrified victim tried to defend himself, raising his arms and falling backwards. He suffered a cut to his finger but bravely kicked Roger, forcing the intruder to flee – smashing the door’s glass pane in a desperate escape.

CCTV Snaps Burglar, Quick Arrest Follows

Thanks to swift CCTV action, police tracked down Roger soon after the incident. At Portsmouth Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and was sentenced to six years, with another 18 months added for breaking a suspended sentence.

Police Staff Investigator David Leonard said: “This is a serious crime targeting vulnerable members of our community. I’m pleased the court recognised the impact of this aggravated burglary with a tough sentence.”

“Though the injury was minor, the fear caused to the pensioner and his wife is significant. This distressing attack on a man who needed help to walk shocked us all.”

“CCTV helped us catch Roger quickly. A table knife was seized, and the victim’s DNA was found on it. This sends a clear message: we will not tolerate attacks on the elderly or vulnerable.”

Local Councils Praise CCTV Role in Crime Crackdown

Councillor Trevor Cartwright, Fareham Borough Council’s Executive Member for Public Protection, added: “Fareham and Gosport councils work closely to provide CCTV across our towns. This conviction shows how valuable these cameras are at keeping residents safe.”

“Thankfully crimes like this are rare, but the on-going CCTV partnership means we’re ready to act fast and protect our communities.”
