Brothers Get 24 Years for Horrific Acid Attack Outside Southampton Restaurant
The Midmore brothers, Billy and Geoffrey, appeared at Southampton Crown Court today to be sentenced after a brutal acid attack left Carla Whitlock scarred for life.
Brutal Assault Over Failed Drugs Deal
On September 18, 2015, outside the Turtle Bay restaurant in Southampton, the pair sprayed drain cleaner in Carla Whitlock’s face during a drugs deal gone wrong. The horrific assault caused severe burns and left Carla, 37, blinded in one eye.
Billy Midmore, 22, and Geoffrey Midmore, 27, both of no fixed address, worked together to carry out the attack that caused grievous bodily harm with intent. Billy was found guilty after a trial, while Geoffrey pleaded guilty earlier.
Jail Time: 24 Years Between Them
- Billy Midmore was sentenced to 15 years in prison plus five years on licence.
- Geoffrey Midmore received a 9-year prison sentence.
The sentences were handed down on Tuesday, June 21.
Police Condemn ‘Barbaric’ Crime
Chief Inspector Debra Masson said:
“Acid attacks in Hampshire are thankfully very rare. The level of injury caused by such an attack is life-changing. Carla still faces many challenges, including permanent loss of sight in one eye, because of this barbaric act.
This was a premeditated assault by two violent men who targeted Hampshire to pursue a criminal enterprise and terrorise people. Their attempts to evade capture only exposed their dangerous nature.
Officers remain committed to protecting communities from drug-related violence and continue to tackle criminals exploiting vulnerable people. We hope today’s sentencing offers Carla some closure and justice.”
